Recently launched project aims to support efficient and sustainable energy use in European industry

SET-IndEU, led by Zabala Innovation and counting with the participation of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and A.SPIRE, has just started. The project aims to create a structured Secretariat supporting the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) in advancing energy efficiency in intensive industries, as laid out in the Action 6 of the Plan.

Brussels, 11 September 2023 - On 6 September 2023, with the first in-presence meeting in Brussels, SET-IndEU has been officially launched in front of its partners and the European Commission representatives. SET-IndEU (“Strategic Energy Technology for Industry in Europe”) is a Coordination and Support Action project proposing a structured Secretariat for supporting and strengthening the activities and outcomes of the SET Plan Implementation Working Group 6 (IWG6) on Sustainable and efficient energy use in industry.

In the next three years, the SET-IndEU consortium will support the IWG6 to advance the implementation, monitoring and revision of the  SET Plan Action 6 Implementation Plan (IP) with the aim of reaching technology targets collectively across SET Plan countries, making EU industry less energy, resource and emissions-intensive and more competitive. For that purpose, the future needs of the process industry, the R&I targets, and the emerging policy priorities will all be taken into consideration by engaging the IWG6 stakeholders in key activities with industrial and research associations and fora, specifically strengthening the relations, dialogue and exchange with the other SET Plan IWGs and the ETIPs.

SET-IndEU is implemented by a consortium of three partners, leaders at the EU level in three complementary and strategic expertise fields. On the one hand, Zabala Innovation, an innovation-led company with more than 35 years of experience in EU-funded projects, will coordinate the project implementation and ensure the highest synergies and engagement with related R&I initiatives. On the other hand, the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), Europe’s largest energy research community, an association bringing together European public research centres and universities active in low-carbon energy research, will lead the technical activities of the IWG6 from the research side. On top of that, A.SPIRE, the European Association that represents ten process industry sectors and is committed to  managing and implementing the Processes4Planet co-programmed Partnership from the private side, will rely on its broad community to ensure the engagement of its industrial members in the preparation of the strategic documents to be delivered.

The project has received funding from the EU Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-06), under grant agreement No. 101123100. It has a duration of 36 months and will last until August 2026.
