On 10 October, the European Commission hosted a timely online event focused on how Research and Innovation (R&I) can significantly contribute to ensure European energy security and strengthen the competitiveness of the clean tech industry in the EU, in alignment with existing policies and measures.
EERA Secretary General Adel El Gammal participated in the event’s key panel discussion on this topic, one that can be characteristed as vital for the EERA community, together with Susan Guthrie, Research Group Director at RAND Europe, Vincent Berrutto, Head of Unit Digitalisation, Competitiveness, Research and Innovation at the Commission's DG ENER, and Evangelos Tzimas, Head of Unit Energy Transition Insights for Policy at the Commission's DG Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Moderated by Davide Amato, Deputy Head of Unit Clean Energy Transition at DG Research and Innovation (RTD), the panellists provided insightful perspectives on the potential of European R&I to safeguard the long-term security and competitiveness of net-zero technologies.
